Flyers Come Home to the Wells Fargo Center After Back-to-Back Wins Against the Devils

The Flyers outscored the Devils 8-4 over the two game span where both Brian Elliot and Carter Hart came away with victories.

In the first game, JVR continued his early season success by notching two goals against Devils back up goaltender Scott Wedgewood. Wedgewood was between the pipes for both games due to Mackenzie Blackwood being on the COVID-19 protocol list. Other goal scorers in the first matchup included: Nolan Patrick, Ivan Provorov and Joel Farabee (who scored his first goal since opening night). Brian Elliot stopped 26 of 29 shots in the 5-3 victory.

The second match up between the teams had a more typical Flyers-Devils game feel. The low scoring affair included a goal from both teams in the first period and a pair of goals by the Flyers in the third period to secure their victory. The Flyers first goal of the night was scored by defensemen Nate Prosser, who was playing in his first NHL game since 2019. His first period goal was just his 11th goal in his 10 year NHL career. Carter Hart stopped 33 out of 34 shots on net, including a spectacular save in the second period. Michael Raffl scored the goal ahead goal just a little over two minutes into the third period. Four minutes later, Flyers captain Claude Giroux potted his first of the season by redirecting an Erik Gustafsson slap-pass. Giroux now has eight points in eight games this season (1 goal 7 assists), coming off his 612th game as Philadelphia Flyers Captain.

Next up, the Flyers face the New York Islanders for back-to-back games on Saturday 1/30 and Sunday 1/31. Both games will be played at the Wells Fargo Center. The Flyers should definitely be ready to go Saturday night, as it is their first game against Barry Trotz’s Islanders since being knocked out by them in the second round of the playoffs last season.

Our prediction for game 1 in this mini-series is a big 4-2 Flyers win!
